EMAB's mandate contains 13 clauses, listed in the Environmental Agreement (page 10). Each of these are large tasks. We've narrowed the areas of priority and focus by consulting our communities.
We work as closely as we can, in a spirit of cooperation, with the Aboriginal communities, with the regulators who ensure compliance with licences and leases, and with Diavik.
The health and well-being of caribou and fish, the quality of the water, as well as Aboriginal involvement in environmental monitoring have always been our main concerns. Our efforts are also directed to other important areas, such as Traditional Knowledge in monitoring, air quality, and closure planning.
