On June 4, 2018, Board and Staff travelled to the mine site for a tour. The tour was led by Diavik personnel to observe various areas of the site including: construction of the A21 open-pit, till placement on the Waste Rock Storage Area, the Water Treatment Plant, the Waste Transfer Area, and the Processed Kimberlite Containment Facility. The Board originally wanted to have the site tour in June to observe freshet, however due to unique weather conditions this year, much of the snow on site sublimated and did not create a lot of runoff. Board and Staff were very impressed with the site tour and it was an excellent opportunity to ask questions.
